Paper Dolls, Painted is about growing up as a Black girl with limited toys that looked like me. Instead of being able to go in the store and find a doll with an afro, brown skin, or Black features, it was more likely that I'd be drawing self-portraits or cutting custom paper dolls. This piece is a direct reflection of my own memory and the memory of so many other young kids of color.
