Portraiture
While most of my work uses portraiture and figurative painting, these works are intentionally highlighting a consistent gaze with the viewer. My goal is to paint my characters with poise and dignity, something that has been denied from Black figures in the painting canon for centuries. Often, their gaze is a challenge to the viewer to keep looking.
